From her 2001 album, Little Lights

Lyrics;
Oh dear me what do mine eyes see
James Renalds and my love sat under yon tree
My heart it bleeds
For she loves him indeed
Sing hi lo lay at the end of the day
Sing hi lo lay at the end of the day

Here I stand empty heart, empty hand
While he has my true love and he has my land
My heart is sore
For she loves me no more
Sing hi lo lay at the end of the day
Sing hi lo lay at the end of the day

No more she'll fly, no more she'll cry
All over the cold earth beneath which I lie
My heart it grieves
For my side she must leave
Sing hi lo lay at the end of the day
Sing hi lo lay at the end of the day

Let the cold wind blow, let the years come and go
I'll wait for my true love though she'll never know
I wish them no rest
Like the heart in my breast
Sing hi lo lay at the end of the day
Sing hi lo lay at the end of the day

I wish them no rest
Like the heart in my breast
Sing hi lo lay at the end of the day
Sing hi lo lay at the end of the day

  • Such a soft relaxing song. Her voice sails through these lyrics like wind through a valley.

  • i love her voice! wen i first heard Kate i thought she was Irish but she's not! she's a yorkshire lass through an through

  • I've seen wee Katie in concert twice in Oswaldtwistle...and she didn't sing this - it's my favourite too! Her voice is as smooth as Baileys irish cream!!

  • I once searched for this song for a week straight. That was how beautiful I thought it was. My how it opened up a door to a whole room filled with her music. Incredible musician.

  • A beautiful depiction of grief. Rusby is understated and charming.

  • Just heard her sing this in the flesh last Thursday in Tunbridge Wells and it was amazingly moving. As tonight is Halloween will sing it as one of my ghost stories but of course it wont be a patch on hers.

  • In case anyone has`nt realised this is a song about a ghost looking at what his wife is up to now he is dead!

  • such a moving song....it's hard to go on sometimes :)

  • nice makes you proud to be from Yorkshire.
