The Texas WingNuts (www.TXWingNuts.com) flew the Texas City Dike 9/26/09 to film the current situation of the dike for the Texas City residents and others desiring to fish the dike. As can be seen from the video, the dike is unsafe for regular travel. Hopefully, one day the dike will reopen.

  • Everything is gone. At most that is left is the posts for the piers. In numerous places, the edges of the road have 12 to 24 inch dropoffs. It still scares me to think of what the beach area has hidden under the water. Even with the best of intentions from the folks that cleaned the bay, there still has to be boards with nails and other unknown hazards lurking under the surface.

As far as the southern side, I have seen a lot of nice, big reds and snappers if folks could only had a boat.

  • The positive result of the dike closure will be the breeding and growth of fish and other sea food /life due to the lack of access to most fishermen.... so the temporary closure should have a great impact on the area...so sealife will have a chance to return back to the way it was when I was a kid, large and plentiful .... thanks for the video

  • i miss my dike :( thank u for the vid

  • Cool!!

  • great place for fishing but the fish scarce

  • WOW...awesome video, I sure miss the TC Dike!!

  • I was wondering if you guys would fly down towards the very end. And you did. The Lighted Pier is no more. Can't count the times I fished off of their pier, plus drink beer and chase the bar tramps. Oh well such is life.

  • Good vid. But if you go back out there, why not shoot a little more of the old boat launch ramp, bait camp area and pier sit on the end of the Dike. You can leave out all the stupid beach stuff....

  • Cool video, thanks for posting.

  • Wow.! Really appreciate your uploading this. So many times since Ike, I've driven out and up to the levee and looked out wondering just how bad it was. Now I know.

    Thanks again.

  • Very Nice Thanks
