Unique pictures of Brown Pigeon feeding chick.
Brown Pigeons are found on the east coast of Australia. They are a large bird that lives in groups but makes little if any noise. They lay a single egg. This nest is on a veranda in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney. It was only after a storm that we were able to get a clear view of the nest and so were not able to get a shot of the egg. This chick is approximately two weeks old. Because we have Kookaburras we are not all that hopeful that it will survive. Initially we did not see the parent feed the chick and the chick was left for most of the day on the nest alone. But early one morning we were able to capture this view of the chick being fed and we now think that the parent intentionally leaves the nest during the day so as not to draw attention to the nest. Our predatory birds are very active.
