I went over to Walgreens and got some speaker cable and hung it up the stairwell here in St. Paul and tuned up my ATS3B on 7.030. WA0QZK, Jack in Warsaw, IN came in loud and clear and was very patient with my horrible performance during this QSO as I juggled camera and homebrewed equipment.
I love QRP!

*4.5W out

*iPod extension speaker

  • Im trying to get my qrp rig going strong! How did you wire up the speaker wire for the antenna? did you run a signal through one wire and the ground through the other. I want to make contact with you lol! Im only in NJ not far! Im on 14.060mhz "20" meter band

  • Not so fast, Speedy Gonzales. I am in Japan. But come April, I can work you for sure.

The antenna. Ha ha... It was a speaker cord from the Walgreens down the street. I split the cord, put one side up the stairwell and tied it to a curtain rod--put the other end into the kitchen and laid it on the floor--and I was getting out of that wood-framed bungalow pretty well. I used an alligator clip to 'ground' the rig and the counterpoise wire to the chair I was sitting in. That's it. Radio is fun!

  • I can work you now. I am in MN. Let's set it up!

  • ...and and?

  • One viewer asks: I just saw your video of a QRP QSO using the ATS-3B with an indoor antenna. Can you tell me what was the antenna? Also, what the heck is that little yellow box full of LEDs?

Are you a member of the AT-Sprint yahoo group?

  • Incredible work...I like the metal enclosures. I want to start building passive crystal diode VHF receivers. I did so years ago and want to relive and expand on the experiences. -73, Chuck

  • Wow. Fascinating. Thanks guys, de EI2KC

  • Good job on the rig. A quick plug for Jack. I just got done working him on my return to CW after a year off. He was very patient and polite.
