Is This Art? is a fascinating new 12 Volume DVD series featuring interviews with leading practitioners and conceptual artists from media, performance, visual art music and sound.
Each episode presents a series of interviews with contemporary artists intercut with images and recent footage of their work. The interviews provide insight to why, how and for whom these artists create their work, and where their passion and artistic inquiries originate from. Where are the boundaries between science, technology, politics, popular culture and art? Viewers are challenged with the question while witnessing the freeflow of imagination.
VOLUME 5
MARI VELONAKI
Art finding emotion in robotics.
She has worked in the field of interactive installation art for over eight years, and is currently an artist/researcher at the Australian Centre for Field Robotics, an ARC Centre of Excellence in Autonomous Systems, Sydney. Recent achievements in intelligent systems research and their application in enhancing human performance have greatly influenced the development, not only of next generation robots, but also the next generation of humans. Through a major collaboration with a team of roboticists from the Australian Centre for Field Robotics (ACFR) in Sydney, Velonakis latest project investigates ongoing issues regarding dialogue through human/machine interfaces.
MARTINA MRONGOVIUS
A graduate of Applied Physics at RMIT University, Martina Mrongovius is a Melbourne-based artist who has specialised for the last few years in holographics. She has been working and researching at the cutting edge of this new technology with specialists and professionals around the globe. Mrongovius artworks have been diverse, ranging from short films and animations to comic books and holograms. Recent exhibitions of her work have been held at Experimedia, State Library of Victoria, 2002, The Foundry, London, 2002, and as part of Next Wave, Melbourne, 2004
