You can get realistic slow motion w/ the DVX-100A if you shoot at 60i and then edit the time mapping of the file using the pixel motion frame blending in after effects.
On this instance I had no artifacting. It looks really choppy on YouTube, but the actual file looks fine. I forget if this is exported at 29.97 or 24P. 60i def helps slow it down.
