What if their actual goal IS to provide a common enemy and bring people together? It would be the most brilliant idea ever! They're not actually killing or hurting anyone and yet they're so repellent to most everyone that people will come together to shout them down. That's what we need, an enemy that's not really a danger. Of course, for it to work they couldn't ever break character.

Not even the KKK stoops as low as the Westboro Baptist Church,

and they share the same core values. They both hate Gays, Jews

Blacks and Catholics. You don't see the KKK going around picketing

the family of someone that just commited suicide or Military Funerals.

Many of the KKK are veterans themselves.

I chose my own path in life and I have nothing against religious people only against those who push there views on those who don't believe. those who push there beliefs so far as to cause a friend to kill himself for being gay . I was there at the protests and I don't believe in what Fred Phelps was sharing there. but he is not the reason for my beliefs. "judge not lest ye be judged" -bible

Neither of us can disparage the other's beliefs, thus it is no use quarreling. If your disdain for theism originates from having seen Fred Phelps abusing it to spread hate; be calm, all religious people are not like that. In fact, almost nobody - theist or atheist - is.
