Its called explosive strength, if he paused the transition to concentric contraction from eccentric contraction would be too slow and he wouldn't utilize his stretch reflex at a speed needed to be effective in the javelin throw. And I guarantee a slap from that Norwegian would make any powerlifter cry.

im 19 and got 430 on bench last year in weight competition and in competition ur bench dont count if you bounce it they make u hold it an inch from ur chest for 2 seconds then push it up

morons would go and think that he has bad form for bouncing it off his chest. well the fyi is that you are supposed to do that when lifting for throws. It's lifting for speed not strength

with that much weight a little bounce wont make much of a difference
