I take a phlebotomy class at a trade school, and this was the first time we got to stick a real person in the class. I got blood on first draw, and i was really happy. The hissing noise you here, is from when the needle started coming out a little, and air was being sucked into the evacuated tube. Other than the premature removal, I would say that was pretty darn good. YOu will also se the patient flinch a little, that was because she wasn't expecting me to go in at the time i did. Haha.
OIh, and by the way, when she states her name, that is NOT her real name, haha.

  • I know this was your first stick so I'm sure your teacher told you all the things that were done improperly; there were quite a few lol Hopefully by now, since this was posted a year ago, you are a kick ass phlebotomist!

  • @VampByDay76 Actually, sadly enough I cannot find a freaking job for it, and sadly I miss doing it so much. :/ And yeah, my hands on final I got a 100%

    Miss it so much. :/

  • do not re-palpate the site after it has been cleansed with alcohol swab! doing so will only recontaminate the site, leading to erroneous lab results or the introduction of microbes onto the site.

  • @samsaras If you watch carefully, i touch that finger to the alcohol pad BEFORE re-palpating. This is the way we were taught to do so.

  • take the tourniquet off before taking the tube out and then the needle. also, the tourniquet was left on too long. its only supposed to be on for one minute or else lab results will have elevated potassium levels and CBC and incorrect diagnosis

  • @leeti329 we didn't have "clinic" hours. They were all in the class room, and it was 165 hours, 21 weeks

  • Ouch that tourniquet is so tight
