I don't get where people got the idea that all raccoons have ticks and rabies. Some do, but so do some dogs. Even enough people. Do you worry rats will give you the plague and Jews will poison your well too? The best advice is never pet a rabid anything, even a dormouse. And if a healthy and happy raccoon wants a scritch, may as well scritch it.

yeah nevermind they carry ticks and fleas and rabies, just go ahead and stick your hand right out there you stupid ass. you remind me of the morons from New Joisey that used to come to my hometown vacationing that would go to the landfill to feed the black bears and wonder why they would loose parts of their asses because they stuck a bag of marshmallows in their back pockets figuring the bears had had enough and the bears thought otherwise.

That was incredibly neat seeing all those critters there!! :D Even more incredible is the fact that the one little fellow let you pet him. I take it that they come by often and are used to you....so they aren't afraid of you petting them.
