I just wanted to add what this is not 7200rpm problem!

I have 320GB at 7200rpm in my macbookpro and no such sounds!

The problem affects configure-to-order 7200rpm 500GB ST9500420ASG drives (made by Seagate) with Apple-specific firmware 0006APM2.

My hard drive actually beeped exactly the same time as one of the beeps in the clip. Ahh, what a beautiful symphony!

Same issue here. Beeps and computer lock ups for 30-40 seconds at a time. AppleCare support told me this is normal behavior and I shouldn't worry about it. If this is normal for a Mac then I'm going right back to the world of Microsoft Windows. :)

I have the same freezing isseu from time to time with ST9500420AS HDD on my HP HDX 16 . Fortunately it's not happening frequently

i hope the press look up that problem, so apple have to solve the 3gbs interface fault with EVI 1.7.

It also affects 320GB versions as well. And also the same harddrive installed into, for instance, Mac minis.

its specifically the 500 GB drives
