The model was sculpted inside ZBrush and decimated to ~75k polys before exporting it to 3ds max.
I am using a 0.2 offset on the projection tools so I can keep the wireframe above the surface. In the end I'm using a -0.2 push modifier to bring the surface back.

  • Hey how many polys does your hi poly have? imported to max,

  • @BTNH108464 It has 75 000. I decimated the mesh first in zbrush.

  • Where can I get a current version of Onion that will work w/ 3ds max 2011 and Vista 64? The only Onion.ms I could find was at script spot, but it's from 2004. I may have more questions. I want to master the workflow you are using here to retopo my meshes, but I think one of my issues is the lack of the Onion script. I tried to make a new layer under the manage layers tab. It's not working. .

  • @G3DFX You don't really need the Onion to replicate the workflow. If you look at script spot, you can find a link to the latest version in the comments.

  • thanks a lot.

is there some way to keep all the details of the sculpting, like in the retopology whit zbrush?

  • @3dberserk1 The next step would be to uv map, import the retopologised mesh back into zbrush and project the details onto it. Afterward you can continue sculpting, or bake a displacement or normal map.

  • It is a very interesting method for a Max user like myself. If I saw this before learning Zbrush I would for sure do it like this. But now I find the topology very easy to make directly in Zbrush. I paint the some guidelines there, than start a new topology. Now I see there is a totaly new topology tool out there... Topogun or something...

Anyway thanks for video. Very educative!

  • plz tell me how can i model the head

  • How did you move the graphite bar to the side???

  • @WhiteChocolate19899 You have to hold Shift and click inside the area defined by the vertices you've placed.

Hover the mouse over the icon of the tool and you'll get a tool tip with the shortcuts of that tools.

  • @BTNH108464 nevermind, you have used the swift loop feature, but most likely you have a shortcut for it.

  • @BTNH108464 at 2:02 you use connect without selecting any edges? do you have a shortcut for it, or is it something in the graphite modeling tools. I know you can use flow connect, and so on. Thank you for your response.

  • @BTNH108464 Never mind, you right click on the ribbon and select customize ribbon > from there you can add and edit all of the ribbon buttons. If you want to copy panels from one tab to another you can hold SHIFT + drag to duplicate. If you need more info check out the help file from autodesk.

  • I am wondering how you customized your ribbon, you can select vertex, edges, polygons etc through the freedom tab in the graphite mdoeling tools. I opened customize ribbon and cannot do it. Help?
