It was released as a single paired with "Separate ways" on November 1972.
The first release in LP was 1973 ("Separate ways" album).
This orchestral (ovedubbed) version was releasd in 1985 on "Always on my mind" RCA LP. Since this year, this version isn't released again.

  • I've always loved this version of the song although I probably wouldn't refer to it as the orchestral version.. The strings are actually being made by a synthesizer. I recall a review of the album in question from which it was from, where one reviewer lamented about RCA overdubbing a synth onto the backing track. Not that it really mattered as the critic was critical of the album in total, referring to it as the Vegas years. I think the horns were genuine although that could be a synth as well.

  • so nice video and photos are perfect

  • I have this version on a various artist compilation CD called 'Ultimate 70s Pop'

  • Actually the first person to record this song was Brenda Lee, her version can be heard right here, on Youtube. As far as I'm concerned Elvis did the best cover of this song, no doubt about it. Willie Nelson comes no way near him when it comes to vocal abilities and overall sound quality. This is a true master piece.

  • This is definitely my most favorite version of this song. This is also definitely one of my all time favorite ballads. It's such a very beautiful and passionate song. I heard several years ago that Elvis was the first person to ever sing this song. I heard several years ago that Elvis recorded this song very shortly before music icon Willie Nelson did. This video is absolutely perfect, 10 Stars as always Marco. Thanks a lot for re-uploading this video. It was great seeing it again.

  • Love the song!!!! Such Awesome vid Marco, fantastic pics, I've never seen!!!!
