What to do with a person with autism/who is autistic, that has an abundance amount of energy, is self injurious, sometimes aggressive, and it is too late to go anywhere(we although sometimes take late night walks however; its cold and she is allergic to the cold, so that idea is out, or we sometimes take drives which help relax her except if she gets alittle bit upset because of how much energy she is, she will exit the vehicle at any given moment!)???
Find every kind of sensory related activity to do(Aromatherapy, music therapy, weighted products, bring out the trampoline, etc). In some cases try a spa evening bring out the calming music, give them a massage with "we recommend" non-scented lotion(different smells can cause different reactions). Music therapy involves noise so at that time of night if you can pull it off without waking anybody worth trying, if not don't attempt :). Aromatherapy, with different smells like said earlier can cause different reactions, sometimes the right smell can cause relaxation. We recently bought a neon tube that we bring in the car when times get too much for her, she loves it, which leads to another thing, visual stimulation. Whatever sensory they seem to seek the most, try defintely.
If nothing else works which is what happened in our case. Bring out the sensory toys, put a movie on with lots of different colors and fun noises to keep distracted. In this case, we had a weighted ball(loves weighted products), a huge "U" shaped pillow to bite, climb on, roll around with or jump on, her stim toys of course, lots of snacks and liquids, and a small dosage of benedryl(which can cause different affects on individuals with autism, so please be careful, in her case it makes her even more aggressive, so it is only taken if these type of nights occur!)
Just another average, non-stop adventurous, very challenging at times, long night with autism...
As I said before, I am a "Night Owl", still awake @ midnight, "stimming" using my baby rattles/teethers.

What does she do during the day? Is she active enough during the day to where she'll be tired at night?

Great video showing reality of living with severe autism! I hope she can find a balance in her brain to help her sleep. When I discovered lamictal can increase nocturnal myoclonus seizures, I called doctor and she decreased lamictal and cut out night dose. So, it reduced the nocturnal seizure. self abusive episodes. This was about 4 weeks ago and nights are still better, minus the stay in the hospital that sort of "blurred" our analysis of lamictal decrease helping, but now we can say, yes.
