In response to the post below... Dinner With Gershwin was written by R&B singer Brenda Russell. She had a top 30 hit in the 70's called So Good, So Right. She is better known for her 1988 hit Piano In The Dark. The title song from that album Get Here was a huge hit for Oleatta Adams. I think The choice of Dinner With Gershwin made sense, they were trying to appeal to an adult R&B crowd who liked Anita Baker and Regina Belle, not Janet Jackson.

i love the music here. when i saw that janet jackson-like "dinner with gershwin" it ended my interest in this album immediately in 1987. during some parts of the song her singing could have been better but the music here is great. backup singing is very good too.
this should have been the top 40 release for this album, some idiot thought the janet jackson crap "dinner with gershwin" was the best song but it was crap considering the time it was released.
this is a very good song.

Donna Summer only got better. Thats what amazes me about her nothing short of excllent career. She improved in my opinion on each album.

Thank-you,thank-you for posting one of my favourite songs of Donna. This one, All Systems Go, Fascination and Only the Fool Survives should all have been hit singles. Geffen nearly destroyed her career in the 80's

It's a shame this album didn't catch much attention compared to the Madonnas, Whitneys, Janets, and such that dominated radio at the time. I actually find the lyrics better than those afforementioned divas.
