I am Buddhist (meaning that I practice a meditation based on the Buddha's teachings) and I do not take Buddhism to mean passivity. Buddhism is, to me, essentially about a fearless awareness of reality inside and out.
Every being has the right and even the duty to preserve itself. You're not going to be able to bring much light into the world if you're dead.
I do not turn the other cheek when confronted by oppressive people or belief systems.

It seems funny how the Christian God allows geographical location and time to be the main factors for the probability of becoming a part of a perticular religion. Wonder why their are so harsh of punishments if the dice didn't roll in your favor, you know?

If you are a Buddhist you must know that Buddhism originated in India. Yet there is hardly any trace of the original Indian form of Buddhism left in India today. They where there in then the Islamist armies Marched in and wiped them out. Modern day Afghanistan was a Buddhist stronghold and repelled Islamic armies for about 300 years before it finally fell. And today the Jihad has reached Thailand which is also Buddhist. Thought you would like to know.

TBH, something along the lines of 9/11 was bound to happen with or without religion. When an entire society is brought up in poverty-like conditions and indoctrinated that there is an enemy which is the cause, bad things will happen. In this religion was the unifying factor, a catalyst if you will.
But you get the same factor with a rigid political state, such as Nazi Germany.
The fault isn't religion, its a rigid indoctrination. Atheists often become what they hate. I say this as an agnostic.

Thanks for the comment. I agree with you that religion is a contributary factor and in some conflicts it serves as a catylist in others I would see it as one of main causes.
Regards the indoctrination, again I agree. I would suggest you look at some of the tv programmes for kids that are being shown in the certain muslim states, using mickey mouse to brainwash palestinian kids into killing jews for the glory of allah and in praise of suicide bombers.
