Sorry I could have worded that better in the first sentence. I was answering the question of why get Tivo, not literally asking why anyone would want it. Tivo rocks. I have no problems with my Tivo at all. My stupid Motorola DVR that came free with FIOS is another story.
Wow I feel sorry for you. I have several Tivo's and they been on for over 3 years and never crashed. My digital cable box now that looks like a spreadsheet menu. Sorry you feel that way. good luck with what your using now cheers :o)
Why get TiVo? The "free" spreadsheet-looking menu guide, every week-crashing, Wishlist-lacking, crap-tastic, cut-every-corner DVRs stink! TiVo's interface is the best. Can you upgrade your hard drive on your Motorola DVR? How about copying a movie from your DVR to an iPod? TiVo has a lifetime subscription option that lets you own the hardware and do what you want with it. Upgrade it, tweak it, the sky's the limit. How about those disabled USB ports on your free DVR? Nice.
That's because sitcoms don't sedate people like they did back in the day.
Look how well reality tv sedates people. It's perfect.
I don't know how many Greyhound and Airline commercials I've seen watching the Travel channel today. And if I tune it to MTV, I'll get ringtone ads out the ass. Reality tv sedates people so much better for some reason.
TIVO sucks, Digital recorders rule! So why do you have to insert quarters into your Tivo to make recording fucntion work? Now major stores don't even carry DVRs anymore. Its all about copywrites, and TIVOs domination of market. Why would I pay TIVO $140/year to SPY on what shows I watch? George Bush already does that."Free" America doesn't mean Free Recoding.
TiVO gave me my evenings back. When networks do crap like boost the audio level of their commercials, and move shows around in an effort to improve ratings of other shows, I no longer had to deal with it. Try as they might, they're no match for the power of the consumer, and companies like TiVO that empower them.
Mazeltof! Still waiting for my first "national" that actually airs.
