Portrait Themed Fondant Birthday Cake!

This is a portrait themed birthday cake with several pictures feauturing the birthday boy himself! The frames were cut out of gumpaste and allowed to dry before being airbrushed with silver sheen metallic airbrush color. Frames and stars were attached using royal icing. The spike border was piped using royal icing as well. The entire cake is airbrushed as well as the presentation board.

Everybody LOVED the cake. :-) His sisters even took several of the 'pictures' home with them and I've actually kept the one of our wedding and have it in the freezer... And the cake itself was to die for!!! Thank you so much for coming up with this idea, because I wouldn't have on my own. You are truly an artist. :-)

how do you the pictures edible? do you use a special machine?

My local cake supply has an edible image printer. :)

I use a Wilton tip. As far as the size, I don't remember which I used. LOL! I never use the same one. Any small size will do. :)
