The purpose of this film is to highlight the legitimate business opportunities available in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea) taken by partners such as Lafarge (global cement leader), Orascom (Telecom leader in Middle Eastern and some other countries), Russian Railways (Russia's largest employer and one of the largest railway operators in the world).
Smaller investments are also highlighted such as the PyongSu pharmaceutical joint venture recognized in 2008 by government (and customers) as one of the very best joint ventures in the DPR of Korea.
In addition, members of the European Business Association in Pyongyang are interviewed and the purpose of the Pyongyang Business School is explained.
This is the most comprehensive film ever made on foreign investment and business in North Korea. It was produced in 2008 by the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (www.chongryon.com) and first broadcast on their TV and now exclusively shown on www.youtube.com/businessNK.
This is part 1 of 3, watch also the separate parts 2 and 3.

In its interview with Felix Abt ("an amazing business pioneer in North Korea", Klaus-Martin Meyer, interview-blog.de), the CHINA ECONOMIC REVIEW, the premier English-language China business magazine, asked him in 2010 the following questions:
- How open is North Korea to foreign investment, and how many foreign companies are operating on the ground?
- What sort of person sets up business in North Korea? What sort of industries have arrived and what sectors are not represented?
- How easy is it to do business there? Are most foreigners concentrated in Pyongyang or are they spread around?
- Hu Jintao has urged North Korea to speed up its economic reform, using China as a model. Could North Korea open up in the same way over the next few years?

  • BusinessNK is politically neutral.

It wants to contribute to help foreign business people better understand North Korea and its business environment and seize business opportunities. It prefers dialogue and economic cooperation to ever more embargoes and sanctions by foreign powers against North Korea which led to no positive results during more than 60 years. The videos kindly provided by visitors and friends illustrate constructive examples of economic cooperation and engagement.

  • BusinessNK invites companies and individuals to share their DPR Korea business experience with other business people interested in doing business with the DPR of Korea (North Korea). It is pleased to upload films from them.

  • I regret it's in Japanese and Korean without English subtitles. Nevertheless it is still very informative as it shows that there is a good number of foreign business activities (not only Chinese!) already going on. No doubt more foreign companies would dare to do business with North Korea if there were no embargoes and sanctions that cause harm to any legitimate business. I have a high respect for those who are already there and no respect for the wiseacres just criticizing them.

  • The highly interesting video gives a unique glimpse into a wide range of foreign business activities in North Korea.

  • At the instigation of the United States North Korea is sanctioned to the bones and can hardly do any "normal" trade with the rest of the world. Instead of inflicting more misery on others elsewhere the US would be well advised to tackle its huge social misery at home: "1 in 6 Americans or 17 mio. households go hungry" (CNNMoney.com 2009-09-16). "50.7 mio. Americans have no health insurance" (USA Today 2010-09-17). What a shame for the world's richest country!

  • I'm sure that DPRK, despite the years of embargo and economic difficulties, great opportunities because labor in DPRK is cheap, workers are well trained and disciplined. Also I think it is important for more business and science/technology exchange with DPRK and various countries to stimulate technological innovations. There are many technological innovation applicable in DPRK which focus on self-reliance and less dependence on foreign energy imports, e.g. energy-saving techniques and renewables

  • yeah, and whats about the 10 mio people in North Korea who have nothing to eat you stupid bastards??? go and fuck yourself!

  • This video is totally legit. Honestly. We all believe the comments. Completely. No joke.

  • I think due to the under development of north korea there is many opportunity's for foreigners and here in the west we shouldn't believe everything we hear, i am sure kim would welcome investments into his country.

  • Your country has refused for already 57 years to sign a peace treaty with North Korea. Small wonder that the North Koreans don't love you. Since the end of the Korean (hot) war your government continued its war with other means (economic and financial embargoes etc.). It is the US government that is not inviting you to deal with North Korea since according to US legislation it is illegal to deal commercially with this country.

  • Why should I do business with a country that has enormous public mosaics of their military destroying my country. NK news also says that my country is their "sworn enemy". This is not inviting.
