  • Need help.

Could you make popcorn balls without caramel?

Are there any other ingredients to make the popcorn glued together other than caramel? Like butter popcornball, cheddar popcornball, etc..

  • @punchingpower Hi. Thank you for watching. To make popcorn balls (w/o caramel), I usually heat white sugar, light corn syrup, butter and a little water. (I sometimes add a little vanilla or molasses to the mixture as well.) I've never made popcorn balls with the puffcorn though.. I've always used regular, popped popcorn.

Isn't white sugar, light corn syrup, butter and a little water components of a caramel?

  • @punchingpower Hi. This is an excellent question! A wet caramel is usually made by melting sugar and water and cooking it and a dry caramel by cooking sugar by itself.

Traditionally, a popcorn ball has a somewhat creamy caramel coating to help it stick together. What I typically consider a caramel popcorn recipe has something like light brown sugar in it or even melted caramel candies, whereas my regular popcorn balls do not have the brown sugar, etc.

  • Can I double the caramel sauce ingredients for more caramel?

    And what is 5:55?

    Is it like butter?

  • @Fikisko Hi! Thanks for watching. I've never doubled the caramel sauce before, but I've always wanted to so that there would be more caramel on the popcorn. It should work fine making extra caramel sauce. Oleo is an older term for margarine (this recipe has been passed down through several generations, lol). You can use either margarine or butter in this recipe. I hope you can give this recipe a try. Take care.. hugs!

  • @punchingpower You could probably make cheese popcorn balls by melting cheddar and velveeta or something, but it's hard to make a solid airlight ball with those ingredients...

  • @usafireandrescue I sure will I just have to find a paper bag, because we don't have any,we only got plastic because here people don't care about nature!!
