Robert ensures his children learn about literacy and numeracy in both English and their Aboriginal language. Robert believes that children will learn by copying their parents' behaviour. Robert uses games like 'I spy' when in the car and doing mathematical problems 'out loud' while at home to help his children develop their literacy and numeracy skills.

How can this be? I thought there were no Kalkadoons left. Obviously their language has somehow endured, despite the near-obliteration of this ancient warrior people in the Kalkadoon War of the1880s. I'm glad to see that there are still some people who can speak the language. The Kalkadoons were a courageous and manly people, who fought to the bitter end, rather than give up their homeland.
