A tool is something used for someone else's purpose. Like this kid singing songs he has never heard of so Simon can make money. Tell in what way this kid is an artist. Does he write any music or lyrics? Does he at least organize the arrangements he sings to? I don't think so. He, like every one else on this show, is a tool, not an artist. They are karaoke singers and they don't deserve a record contract simply because they can sing well.

How the fuck can you say " David made a rather boring song sound like a beautiful classic"?This song was & is a beautiful classic the moment it was recorded. Also, How can you say his emotion in his voice tells the story of the song that you never knew existed?There's only one lad out there that can sing the true emotion & story of this song & thats Paul Mccartney! Listen to the orginal!

If you can not surpass David's level of singing, do not emphasize your envy and/or insecurity by making condescending remarks to David Archuleta's rendition of the song, you over-exposed your ignorance. American Idol judges complimented and praised David's singing. They are qualified and competent in their field to do their job-that's what they are well paid. You may apply to be one of the judges and if you are really smart, you might be hired.

@zwaghuf Actually thats not entirely it about american idol. I gives people a chance to get out there. Then once they get a contract they are free to write their own music as they choose. Dont shoot the deer before its grown, my friend. And actually I dont think its that bad a rendition of Paul's beautiful song. Just because people are confined to the rules of a show does not mean they do not have any ability whatsoever to compose a piece of their own. You get on that show. Prove me wrong.

David knows this music very well, he does write music and lyrics, has input for the arrangements. An artist indeed. Once a great while a true artist is discovered by unconventional means and he was only 17 at the time of this.
