Anderson #2 Oil Well pumpjack along the Arkansas River between Cañon City and Florence, Colorado. This unit was rebuilt a few years ago when oil prices began to go up. This is the first time I've actually seen it running since the overhaul; these low yield wells only produce a few barrels a day. This well was drilled in the 1890s.
The closest refinery is in the Denver area so I guess they haul it there when the price is right! (There used to be TWO refineries in Florence during the 1880s, mostly for making lamp oil which this light oil was great for http://geosurvey.state.co.us/Default.aspx?tabid=434)
Nice to see an older unit like that back in operation!
