Biography Kante Kerfonse :
Already more than hundred years the family of Kanté Kerfonse from Guinea-Conakry, exists of original "griots". (a griot is a story-teller, who, while singing, tells stories about families, their villages and their lives. Such as a troubadour). His grandfather Elhadj Djeli Fodé and his brother El Hadj Ibrahim Kanté were two very famous griots from the Manding empire. (Guinea-Conakry, Mali and Ivorycoast). Their music is transmitted from generation to generation. From Mama Kanté to Mory Kanté, Manfila Kanté, Yeye Kanté, Adama Condé, Safiata Condé, Aminata Kouayté, Hadja Kouyaté, Kaba Kouyaté, Oumou Diabaté, Kaba Kanté, Amadou Sodia, Djéssou Mory Kanté, Djéli Moussa and many more familymembers. Kanté Kerfonse is the son of Manfila Kanté and Djessou Kouaté. He is born on January the 1st, 1979 in Guinea-Conakry. Kanté Kerfonse learned the skills of the job from his father Manfila Kanté and his uncle Mory Kanté.
Manfila Kanté was a singer, writer/componist and he played exceptionally good guitar and balafon. Mory Kanté has won several times prices with playing the cora in Europa. "Yèkè-Yèkè" is all over the world his most famous song. Also nowadays his recent cd "Sabou" is a hit. Mory Kanté is a writer/componist, singer and he plays cora, balafon, doun-doun and guitar. As a little boy Kanté Kerfonse joined his father by his perfomances. Now he sings and writes his own compositions. The idea of Kanté Kerfonse is to mix his traditional music with other worldmusic. His repertoire integrates pop, rap, groove, jazz in African beat with its own traditional African rhythm. The music of Kanté Kerfonse proves that African and European instruments combine well. Most of his songs talk about the protection of the nature, the multicultural world, women-rights in the world and about love. He is a revelation in African music.

I thought when I saw the dancers that this was Senegalese. Then, reeading the video description, I see that this is, to some degree a sort of fusion/jazz/folk experience. Definitely worth checking out more of the vids in this roster.
