hobie wave is a great boat to start out on. the getaway can definitely be sailed by one person, but it depends on how big you are. to rig the getaway you need two people.

yes i have i did a race last year in 30 knots of wind r spin ripped halfway

fxones are singhand but not for 13 year oold he would prbaly need a crew and hobie waves are terrible i would go with like a 14 or 14 turbo

A boat like the Hobie Getaway is too big even for one adult. There are boats that are suitable for a 13-year old (OpenBic for example, see their website and even Hobie Bravo may be ok) but regardless of the age you need some instruction on how to rig and manouver a sailboat.

In that case I would look for a smaller cat. These type of Hobies (Getaway or Wave), the ones with rotomolded hulls, are not particularly fast and a sailboat racer might get bored pretty quick. Hobie 16s are fun but they require a crew of 2. There are single-handed cats, for example Hobie FXOne but it's not cheap!
