A number of precursors, but the birth (for better or for worse) of 'fusion' here. I love the jazz tuning to the drums in a 'rock' context, something I always enjoyed from Tony Williams. As to Bitches Brew, some of my favorite drumming 40 years on. They all look back on it wistfully I'm sure. Chick Corea and Joe Zawinul egging everyone on. I bet Chick can't listen to that without getting misty. I never get tired of listening to 'Pharoh's Dance'.

the Bitches Brew recording sessions were just a bunch of jams, Davis instructed as they went. Teo Marceo then created a number of the titles that eventually appeared on the album by editing some of the better out-takes together, listen carefully to the original and you will hear actual looping sections that functioned as segues. There's a full breakdown of the entire session featured in The Complete Bitches Brew Sessions release that came out originally in 1998.

great idea to feature more of marty klarwein's paintings in this video, since he made the amazing cover art for this one

This is from the "Deep Brew" bootleg CD's (there are 2 volumes). Both are most excellent. Can probably be found as torrents somewhere, or bought. I bought my copies online.
