Lady Majida El Roumi's speech at Gibran Tueni's memorial.

Gibran Tueni was the head of the Al-Nahar (The Day) newspaper in Lebanon which is known to be probably the freest newspapers in the middle east. He was killed in a terrorist attack where a bomb was planted in his car in Lebanon after his return to his country,despite threats to kill him. He was killed on December 12th 2005, 13 days before Christmas. His life and works cannot be described in a paragraph. There are many against him politically. Personally I didn't always agree with everything he said,but I do truly believe him to be a dignified citizen of our country, Lebanon. His famous quote at a speech was "In the name of God We, Muslims and Christians, Pledge that united we shall remain to the end of time to defend the Great Lebanon"

Lady Majida Roumi, 'l'ange du Liban', the Angel of Lebanon, is a classical Lebanese singer. Daughter of Halim El Roumi, one of the greatest poets and musicians of Lebanon, she sings her heart and soul to her country and she suffered in the war, like the rest of us. Whether we agree with her or not, I salute her for standing up and attacking those who were present in the audience, as well as those who were absent.

I am an American. My grandson is half Lebonese. To be honest, when that came about, I felt my country was being invaded through our virgin daughters. I felt the greatest anger I had ever known.

That was some years ago and the anger has lessened as I have watched my grandson grow. He is a singularly great kid.

Today is Christmas day. I am sitting at home alone and have watched Majida El Roumi videos for a couple of hours. Also, I did some research. I read about Gebran Tueni.
