I think most towns, or even neighborhoods, have their version of a so called "mom and pop" store or business. Might be a restaurant or beauty shop or something else. But it's a place where the people who work there and the owners tend to know all the locals and lots of out of state customers. These places are friendly and they help to put a personality to the community. In our town, Chester, the local gas station fits the bill. Three generations and counting. Chester is also the home of the world's largest Tea pot, located right across the street from Chaney's store. It was a symbol in years and decades gone by when this area was the pottery capitol of the world. Most towns have some sort of claim to fame. Steubenville, Ohio has the original Fort Steuben and it was the birth place of Dean Martin. Jewett, Ohio was the home of General Custer, Cadis, Ohio, the home of Clark Gable. We didn't have those, so the city restored that old Icon. Thanks for listening, chuck.
P S.....there are actually four workers employed in this song, one shift had Carly and Carra working together. They became Carly Cara. The other shift was Sandy and Judy, who became Sandy Judy, for the sake of brevity.
CHANEY'S OF CHESTER copyright Chuck Picklesimer 2011
Carly-Cara works at Chaneys
Selling gas and cigarettes
And news to daily buyers on the go.
Carly-Cara works at Chaney's
Earning money for school.
Mounted camera color-vision keeps an eye
On things mundane and boring
Or funny, brief, or kind,
Big and little dramas,
(Lasting) moments, maybe more.
Some tourists taking pictures
Of a red and white Tea pot,
Bigger than some kitchens in a Chester vacant lot.
Sandy Judy works at Chaney's
Always keepin' with the flow
Even when that powerball gets high.
Sandy Judy works at Chaney's
And she always gets it right.
Mounted camera color-vision keeps an eye
On good friends and local vendors
Or just strangers passing through
Filling needs for product
Or hot coffee visit talk.
Some tourists ask directions
To the track or to a city
Encouraged by old tea pot in a Chester vacant lot.
Patrick Chaney works at Chaney's
He is an owner now
Just like his mom and dad were years ago.
And Don was too.
Patrick Chaney works at Chaney's.
Old store may never die.
Mounted camera color vision keeps an eye
On the comings and the goings
Of each woman, child, and man.
Pat and Amy raising children
Who may run the store some day.
Generations sharing pictures
Of a red and white Tea pot.
Bigger than some kitchens in a Chester vacant lot.

Thought you people drank coffee more than tea. Must be an assumption. Maybe you drink it in big cups rather than using those little china ones with saucers that the British drink a cup from. You were in fine voice this day Chuck. The guitar sound too is nice and clear. Whatever you did sonically I hope you do it again soon. Write it down perhaps. I'm always forgetting settings myself.

@CurtisMateer hi Pete. Chaneys is local gas station that sells some food itmes and LOTS OF BEER to go. the coffee is purchased staight or decaff from a Bunn coffee maker into medium to large styrafoam cups with lids to go. sonically, i've for the most part stopped using mics. this is room sound in my geodesic dome living room, 20 feet high ceiling and concrete floor with a few throw rugs. hard surfaces of wood siding walls. S. yairir guitar, flaminco, nylon, no mic. peace and love, chcuk

Really digging this one, Chuck. Man, your playing is just the best.
As one who's worked in retail (and actually loved it even though it was low paying), I love your lyrics. They really capture the life of a retail clerk. I have so many fond memories of my youth, working in a drug store and a department store. The hub of life was in these stores. This one's going on my favorites list. :) Janet
