This is a new era of Doc Rodent, an Edinburgh based blues band- they asked me to front them and I am happy to.

We have had two rehearsals (all the songs are new to me- aaah!), one gig and this recording session for a demo.

This is by the greatest blues musician of them all- Robert Johnson. They say he sold his soul to the devil in exchange for his guitar skills, and did that at a crossroads. That story features on the Coen brothers' film Oh Brother Where Art Thou?

Doc Rodent, soon to be on YouTube, are:

BrigidMhairi, vocals
Gerard, guitar/harmonica/vocals
Ronan, guitar
Des, bass
Andy/JB/Dukesy, biscuit lids

  • the thing with blues is not to sing or play what fits in there easy, you've gotta contribute your own thing to it. I think you sound great, but you could really put some stank on those notes and make the song your own. give yourself to it. My favorite song of your on here in Dark island. Incorporate that distant yearning and melancholy into this song and i think you'd really have somthing!

  • I don't think that Crossroads Blues the way we do it is a melancholy song though. And I agree the blues sound best live but sometimes you have to work in the studio even when it isn't how you like to work. :)

  • This is SO great! *****

Not your usual fare, still - dynamite!

~I learned to play this song in 1972, and we still play it ~ Classic stuff, Brigid! <3

  • you are right it is not like my usual music but then I don't really have one kind of music. I just never played with a band before now so it's just my first chance. :)

  • This definitely works!

  • thank you fehquiq, I wasn't sure I could sing blues their way and that was done after two rehearsals and one gig when I really wasn't sure. :)
