I think that Steven Moffatt should have told River who she was before the Byzantium episodes because then I think there would be subtlies to the way she'd interact with Amy because looking at her with Amy now, she seems to be an ordinary stranger but a daughter who can't see tell her mum that she's her daughter would be immediately attached. Steven should have told her after the Library episode (where she'd first meet Amy). :-/

@thefartydoctor I think it was quite deliberate on Moffat's part. River lies about not knowing Rory in "The Pandorica Opens". She's a real keeper of secrets. I *highly* doubt River ever knew her parents growing up. She probably doesn't have a strong connection to them, so being in a situation where they've no idea who she is, isn't altogether distressing. I think only the Doctor has ever truly been there for her.

@TheSeverusSnape Maybe you're right. I simply think that under all the secrets about her maybe or maybe not being the Doctor's wife or whatever, you've got to admit that with her timestream going backwards to their's that she would at least give them little looks or whatever every now and then. It's all about the subtlies and I reckon if I said that to Alex Kingston herself that she'd agree... maybe a little at least. :D

@thefartydoctor She's actually quite motherly toward Amy. Maybe that's the only clue Moffat wanted to give. I don't know how River would be able to show a child's affection toward her mother, when her mother was over half her age. Mothering your mother may seem odd, but this is really more of a relationship between strangers. . . that said, there's a scene that was shot for Series 6 ep13 that takes place just after Byzantium. River & Amy have a reunion then.

@non2002 yeah I know what you mean. In that last episode, we were all like "Why the hell was River trying to shoot the Astronaut version of herself and then at the end, she made us all certain in what we were thinking, which was Rule 1. She's a liar and good actress. And I suppose it's not as though she never met her parents. :D

@thefartydoctor I can sort of understand River's detachment towards young Amy. If you had the choice of going back in time and seeing your mum at a young age it would probably seem weird and as if you are meeting a stranger. However, since Melody grew up with Amy and Rory this is sort of a quandary. Maybe River's one hell of an actress. I mean, looking at the space suit in the Impossible Astronaut she betrays almost no emotion or clues whatsoever as to the identity of the little girl.
