Wrong - it was seriously a well-designed alien robot - considering the times. Back in 1954 this kind of movie was done on a shoestring budget with the least amount going to the creature/robot/effects - think hundreds of dollars, not tens of thousands or millions, like today's sci fi. For the producers to okay an unusual, streamline, modern design - and for a propman/wardrobe person to build it - well, it's nothing short of amazing that it was this good. And back then, it WAS good. I was there!

This is the goofiest robot I've ever seen. Some HVAC repairman's unused ductwork. The scene needs a laugh track. Just two years later--we have "Robby the Robot" in Forbidden Planet. What an improvement!
