Following its international premiere in competition at the Montreal World Film Festival, this wonderful French language drama had one reviewer saying "'Miss Montigny' falls somewhere between Ken Loach and 'The Full Monty' in its evocation of a small-town beauty pageant in rural Belgium. Sandrine (Cesar winner Sophie Quinton) is 20 years old and full of dreams and ambitions to one day open her own beauty salon in the "black country" town of Montigny. Her mother, Anna (Ariane Ascaride) is supportive of her daughter, wanting to see her life succeed where she sees that her own life has failed. When a local beauty pageant opens its door to contestants, Anna pushes her daughter to enter herself seeing it as an opportunity to become locally famous and a way to secure a bank loan for the salon. However the road trod by mother and daughter is not an easy one.
