(1611-1679). Spanish composer. Blinded as a child, he became organist of the collegiate church of Daroca in 1631 (choirmaster, 1674). Imbued with Spanish intensity, his music includes seven Pange lingua settings and 32 organ pieces (mostly tientos) characterized by suspensions, chromatic inflections, and fantastic figuration: sort of Iberian counterpart to the ricercare or fantasia that was generally written for the organ.
This is superb technical mastery, unparalleled in skill.
