This is a strange little mystery/horror themed adventure, with no enemies and nothing trying to kill you. Instead you just explore and try to figure out what happened here in this place before you arrived. You often hear voiceover, apparently of some guy who wrote a letter to someone named Esther. Are you supposed to be Esther? I don't really understand it, but it's an interesting experiment.

Occasionally two voiceovers overlap because I sped forward too much. Sorry about that.

  • Seriously, you need to stop jumping throughout the whole game!

  • Okay. Go back, turn down sound effects. Leave music and voice over up. And play it again.

  • @Noobkilla99786 Mod, then game.

  • @pushead2600 this is the original mod for half-life, before it became an independent game. You can jump in it.

  • why does this remind me of MYST?

  • It's not Horror it's pure Art...

  • nah vid is bullshit you modded the shit out of the game with ruins the devs hard work!!! you cant jump or run or interact with objects just journey towards the beacon. this game is about the story not the gameplay

  • Wait "Dear Esther" just came out on steam, Was this actually a Mod for HL2 then made into a game? Or was this a game for a while, and eventually made into a mod for HL2?

  • ia this a mod or a game

  • @RoundedSplashMan So we're supposed to just stop making every type of media that has some bad stuff in it? So based on newly released books like Twilight we're supposed to stop making books also? I also never said anything against books, I really like to read a good book. And I'm pretty sure a book costs more than 10 bucks and you can't do anything in them.

  • @RoundedSplashMan >implying >implying >implying are you a fucking hipster too?

Seriously, go back to cowadooy you fucking faggot.

  • lol @ narrowed minded comments that imply that only books are supposed to have good stories.

All forms of entertainment media can have compelling stories: books, movies, plays, operas, manga, and yes video games. (Not an exhaustive list obviously).

I fail to understand how a book with a good story is exciting, but a video game with a good story is boring. Fail logic is fail.
