Jimmy Smith NEA Jazz Master Award Recipient Hammond Organist telling last jokes just one month before he passed away on February 8 2005. Filmed by Jon Hammond on NEA Panel including Kenny Burrell, Slide Hampton, Paquito D'Rivera, A.B. Spellman.
Jimmy tells the story about his adventures driving his Hammond B3 Organ and musicians in a Hearse and story of (like the commercial) "Got go gotta' go gotta go right now...almost made it" while on the gig on bandstand. Hilarious must see..!

@gospel- OH please! I too am an organist for over 30 years who had a lesso with Mr. Smith while living in the valley and I agree with COLE "There's no one who will ever be able to touch his musical genius.." You may know 3 that grew up on Jimmy and yet WE DON'T and probably never will know who they are. If the were in the class of Jimmy Smith we would know them.
RIP JIMMY can't NOBODY touch you. Others (MCGRIFF, GROOVE HOLMES, LONNIE SMITH, EARLAND) came close and that's why we know THEM.

Jimmy Smith...The Greatest Jazz organist who ever lived..I'm a organist myself and have been playing the Hammond B-3 organ since 1966...I got hooked on it the first time I heard my first Jimmy Smith album..I've strived hard and patterned my playing after Mr. Smith..There's no one including myself who will ever be able to touch his musical genius..We will always love and miss you..Thank you for the music you brought us..It will live forever!!!
