You ae right to look at the new XACTI models WHO HAS GOT THE CODEC H.264 !!!
It make a HUGE DIFFERENCE !!! (QUALITY - SPACE really optimised)
Have a look at the brand new XACTI CA65 who is WATERPROOF !!!
I'm a lucky owner :-)))
The sensitivity to low light is also excellent.
I've made some night-video with only 100 ASA !

You can get it for under $600. I purchased from Amazon.

Those were released after the HD2, they are more compact and kind of sporty look. They don't record in HD. It all depends on your needs, not all videos need to be HD, I think DVD quality is fair enough. But if you have a HDTV maybe you will prefer the full resolution of the HD2. No, it was set on 200 speed. It is better to test what setting works better for the light and then set it up as a fix speed. If you use auto you will get variations. The camera is pretty cool, it just needs a little of try outs to get the best out of it.

Nice video.. So did you use the "fireworks" setting on the camera or just shoot in nighttime mode? Or some other setting? It looks great. Thanks for the video.
hey nice video. quick question about the xacti, can you use it like an mp3 player? can you put songs into it?

I don't think so. It does record voice in mp3 format and I guess eventually you can play via docking station into your stereo-receiver, but don't know for stereo mp3. As a portable mp3 player, NO, the camera does not have audio out jacks. Only via docking station. Wait for the all in 1 I-phone next generation ;-)

Thanks for shooting some test footage!
Just curious, I heard that this camera can shoot at 60fps, but I'm having trouble confirming this. Can it shoot at 60fps in high-def, or only in standard def.?
Also, how well does it do indoors in low-light situations? Some say it does well, others say it does poorly.
Thanks

It is only 30fps, the previous model can do 60fps but apparently was too much for editing softwares to handle.
It does very well, but you need to manually set up your preferences. I use mine at speed 200, and that works well. for more tips on how to film go to
