My first "small" diesel engine. Warm start, still started on first pull when cold anyways but didnt bring my camera...
Governor\speed control sorta fixed, still needs some adjustments. Unoriginal fuel tank. Anyone know where I can get a gasket set for the oil filter? It leaks...

First when I got it I checked the oil, which was clear\ok so I thought it was ready to run. Appearentely not!, when you get a new engine ALLWAYS CHANGE THE OIL even when the previous owner says he changed it.
There was water in the air cleaner and there was water in the oil, and I didnt notice this before the engine started making wierd noises.
I changed the oil, and still made a little bearing\whining noise, but went away after a while. Put a little bit of oil in the air cleaner, not sure if it supposed to have that...

  • Could you answer a questions for me? Is the starter, positive, or negitive ground? Thanks. Don, USA

  • @dcw1834 Mine is not equipped with electric start option, so I wouldnt know. I looked in the parts list and it says nothing about P\N grounding, however it does mention that there are two different startes; One for each CCW and CW -models (turning direction). Parts lists can be found on the web, I found nothing on grounding :P

  • I just bought an AC1 Petter, not running, but has good compression, and urns over good. What would my engine be worth? Do you have any idea? javahjoeo, aka Don I'm in Indiana, USA

  • @dcw1834 I got mine for $250 (Norway\EU), and I consider that a pretty good deal for a running motor. Not sure what they go for "over there" (USA). Our economical difference is messend up, and $250 is about a "day-and-a-half" of work for me. It would probably go for a bit less in your area (mybe more). Have you tried to fix it? You might get more for it if its in running condition. You might also get more for it in just parts, a starter is $200 if you have one.

  • Thanks, my AC1 6hp has the hand crank & despite pre cranking & oil priming is an absolute pig to start (as in 2 whole Afternoons) think the compression ratios were set too low for starting on these, after they did away with variable compression adjustment (have a reputation for being poor starters) I am raising my compression as a non starting generator isn't much good, once started it generates and runs just fine so it's worth persevering.

  • @wind4watts I have yet to try a real cold start on this, but so far its starts in about 5-7 pulls in as low as 2*C. Im sure mine would be easier to start if it was bolted down to something, if I pull to hard I just move the whole engine, and I cannot operate the decomp while pulling. The manual says there are shims on the bottom of cyllinder that can be removed\added to change compression. Mine however does have a new injector, that might also help..

  • I have not tried to start my Petter AC1. It's been to cold over here, in the USA. Thanks for replying back, with your comments. I was trying to get an idea if it is worth working on or to part it out. I bought it with other items from a friend, and he had not tried to start it. So far it's been pasted around with no one working on it. Look out it might come your way, Norway! Thanks again. Don USA The state of Indiana.

  • What type of engine is that and where did u get it from?

  • @Da9eI Thanks for reply, that isn't so bad a few pulls without Oiling the prime hole, as you say if they are unstable you end up pulling them over if enthusiastic. I have discovered the root of my problem earlier a1 1/4" piece of the piston lands (between the top & middle rings) that's the cause of my woes, wondering if it's worth laying out the £ , have a think anyway..

  • Nice Job, Looks good.
