"Tea For Two (Take 9)" performed by the Thelonious Monk Quartet. Taken from the 1962 "Criss-Cross" album (Although this track is considered to be a bonus track and thus was not on the original album, an alternate version of "Tea For Two" can be found on the original record). Composed by Vincent Youmans.

Thelonious Monk Quartet:

Thelonious Monk: Piano
Charlie Rouse: Tenor saxophone
John Ore: Bass
Frankie Dunlop: Drums

  • monk is a genius

  • I cannot listen to enough Monk. I listen to Monk while I sleep, just to try to drive the essence of Monk into me somehow. And this is a truly brilliant recording.

  • In all fairness to Ben Riley, who is a great drummer,I always felt that beside Art Blakey,Frankie Dunlop was THE best drummer ever to accompany Monk in his quartet during the Columbia years recordings,as well as the live concerts. His

buoyancy and inventiveness was as intense as Monk himself.

  • You might want to count the chord changes again.. :)

  • I play thelonious the God before and after I go to sleep

  • @aloliver331 I think it was the '63 Cincinnati Jazz Festival. I had refused to move from my seats that they needed for audio equipment. Ended up with tickets and stage passes for the next nights performance. Monk was blown as usual as I came to realize later from stuff I read. He wasn't recognizing friends who came up to him. Listening to this performance, there is one word that comes to mind, which for me is my ultimate compliment, "clairvoyance" and it is a pre-tuned a piano!!

  • Just two chords...i know this version will be my favorite.

  • Love Frankie Dunlop's entrance. That M----F--r could dance on those drums!!!

  • I'm making a music video for this song--would that be respectable?

  • I had this original album Criss-Cross on CD but it "disappeared".

The Tea For Two cut was so beautiful and soulful. However i am appreciative

to Strawberry Fairy Shoes for this offering.
