Maybe melting, i mean welding the underside that no one see's would be a good idea to insure it's uniformly bonded?

The bottom of that groove was stone cold with that molten rod just pushed into it.
If there was no melting of the base material I would be concerned.

Glorified soldering iron is all it is. I made my own and just had to buy the rods,very easy to make!
