they try so hard! Do you see how the trunk shakes like a person with Alzheimer's arthritis - like a little kid trying to draw! The concentration is awesome - even if it's a learned trick, the effort on the part of the elephants shouldn't be overlooked!

I agree with you...I've seen that as well (however, not in person, but on tv...I don't get out much :) ) I think that once news spread about some authentic elephants painting pictures, all of a sudden, everyone's "pet" elephant became a Picasso... Regardless, having a drawing that was painted by a brush, which was held by an elephant (guided by a person or not) is something nice to have.

those elephants are tortured, please DO NOT caution this...

The elephant was not doing it on his own. But still good job.

um, this is just the lerning process
thats why he got to hold the trunk

Wow, cool video. This just goes to prove just how intelligent elephants are. To do something like this takes concentration and excellent eye/trunk coordination. Further proof, if any were needed, that we need to save these majestic and intelligent animals.

Okay, next time, no trunk holding!
Glad everyone is enjoying the video. For those who are curios, this was taken at the Thai Elephant Conservation Center in Northern Thailand, which has a free hospital for wounded Thai elephants. The paintings are one of the ways they provide income to sustain their conservation efforts.
