This hard-to-locate documentary series from 1982 highlights the major themes, artists, and masterworks of Romanticism. A French-British co-production hosted by Anthony Andrews, the series does not exist in its entirety on YouTube. This episode presents the theme of the Romantic journey, a journey to lands far-flung, remote, long past, imaginary, and sacred.

This segment focuses on the utopian nostalgia of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood whose work was presented in contradistinction to the ills of industrial-era England.

As I recorded this footage in 1989 and patched together what I could with software in 2005 for my 2006 YT channel, picture quality may vary. The note at the end of the segment, from my first channel, "Mr Pogle", is now outmoded because thankfully we can all now purchase the program at mediaoutlet.com! I am so glad to have found out how to purchase it in 2011! - Erika

  • Great!

    A lot of thanks

  • The Romantic Spirit was a reaction to the Industrial Revolution in Great Britain and Europe. The Romantic Period of the last century was a response to WWII and the Cold Ward (an era of industrialized wars and standardized ways of life), and manifested mainly in the counterculture of the 1960s.

What kind of Romantic movement will occur in a society where the system is bound together by the Internet, Facebook, and smart phones?
