Telling new players to pick carries is a terrible idea. Heroes like Lich or Shadow Shaman would be a much better choice - Far more useful to team play with little skill or knowledge, while getting the hang of the game. Last thing a team needs is somebody who doesn't know what they're doing picking carry and losing the game for the team.

I do agree, although I think the confusion here is caused by the fact that I missed out a very major point: There's no way that new players should be fighting against humans until they've practiced a lot against bots. In the stages when you're just learning the basics of the game, choosing Drow or Sniper against bots is a great way to dive in and start having fun. As pointed out in the easiest character vid though, Lich is a far better choice.

Drow Ranger and Sniper are possibly the absolutely worst choices for a beginner. Nothing's as useless as a bad carry player. I'd suggest heroes like Lich or Tidehunter - the first incredibly useful without any previous knowledge, the latter tanky which means it's harder to kill, and also pretty straightforward. I'd also like to mention that this video misses the ABSOLUTE basics. While you go through the basics of the game, you expect people to know beforehand for example how to move and attack.
