Famous Vietnam singer Khanh Ly and the famous composer Nguyen Anh Chin (Anh9) was invited to Japan to perform in 197X. On their way back to their hotel from a concert at the EXPO, the singer asked in the elevator; "Are you still in love with your first love and do you still think of her?" The composer did not answer directly but begun to hum a melody. When Anh9 was in the hotel room, he wrote the lyric of the song "Khong" -- emptiness. Vietnamese speak French. Latin/French music was very popular with Vietnamese musicians. So "Khong" was inspired by Christophe's song "Non Je ne Plus".

Khong talked about two lovers. Vietnam was at War, so the relationship between men and women could end up separate due to war or the drastic change of society. Everything seems so empty after all. But the love prevails and sank deep in the heart and it hurts when two lovers could not be together.

Though Khong was composed in Japan, it is a Vietnamese song. It was incredibly famous in Vietnam from 1970 all the way to 1980. Japan, Taiwan and Hong Kong all love the song. Teresa Teng was the first to sing the Japanese version. She also sang a Chinese version. The song did not reach Mainland China as at that time China could not accept a love song like "Khong".

Anh9 is very good as a piano player. He accompanied Khanh Ly and some most famous Vietnamese Singers in the lounge of Hotels for the performance. I want to thank Mr. Anh9 for allowing me to use the piano solo as companion music. I also want to thank Suongthu for providing me all the information about the song and the video about the composer.

The Video of Anh9 was filmed in Vietnam - Province of Da Lat by ThuyNga by Night 83 "Những Khúc Hát Ân Tình" - and the MC is Mr. Ng Ngọc Ngạn - Arigatou .

Last, I have some more information about Chinese version.

In Mandarin, there are two versions of the song, one version sung by 尤雅 and the other by 楊小萍. Both were written about the same time. In 1971, 尤雅's "空" is more well known in Taiwan. However, 楊小萍's Mandarin Version of "空" is more well known in Vietnam, since she travelled several times to Vietnam to host concerts. She even learned the Vietnam lyrics. The two versions of lyrics are different, but the meaning is similar because both Mandarin versions are translations of the original Vietnamese "Khong".

Khong Khong
Khong Khong
Khong Khong
Khong Khong
Khong Khong
Khong Khong
