The launch of Mercury-Atlas 9 (Faith 7). Onboard is astronaut Gordon Cooper - May 15th 1963. This was the last Project Mercury flight. Cooper completed 22 orbits and still holds the duration record for an American on a single person spaceflight. And YES I have realised I put the wrong patch at the beginning!

  • Wrong patch. No space food sticks for you. Good video.

  • @airdaleva42 Thanks for the comment....I did realise that I had put the wrong patch on the video....I did admit it in the description above....! lol

  • Is there any chance we might see (although in black-and-white) kinescopes of TV footage of this launch??

  • @altfactor At the present time I don't have the "live" TV launch footage but it must be out there somewhere. If I do find it I will inform you! Someone might have it and post it up on UT...you never know!

  • Cooper was a pioneer astronaut. Cool, calm, and relaxed, but under that exterior was an extremely intelligent engineer and avitator. The Right Stuff does not show that side.

  • @Jamie246100 Did gus grissom really said that in real life?

  • I can just hear the ending theme to the Right Stuff @ 1:55

  • I have the radio description of this launch if you ever want to marry it to the video. I vividly recall seeing the launch just before heading to school at 8:04 a.m. EST.

  • GO HOTDOG GO!
