Afghanistan Reconstruction Trust Fund

Following the fall of the Taliban regime at the end of 2001 and the return of international aid agencies to Afghanistan, it was agreed with the interim government early on that a pooled financing mechanism was needed to ensure a coherent and coordinated reconstruction effort. Consequently, the Afghanistan Reconstruction Trust Fund (ARTF) was established in April 2002 with support in the first year from 20 donor countries.

To newtype: the World Bank is not always good actor, admitted. But in this case, it is. Your hostility is misdirected. The Afghan people actually get to choose and build the projects, with outside help. The programs mentioned in the video had enormous positive effects in Afghanistan, on the condition women especially. Also, the WB here operates by direct, permanent grants, not loans. So no interest rates and no extortion.

The World Bank is what causes poverty in the world. This bank is run by the former colonial powers that force people to pay high interest rates and devastates economies by forcing them to invest in dead end programs. World Bank = colonization.
