Various Television commercials from Australia:

This advertisement for Brut 33 was first broadcast on Australian television in the year 1982.

Firstly, is this ad Australian or is it American? If there anybody involved in this ad is reading this, please step forward and confirm the nationality of this commercial. Please?

Brut 33's alternative approach to advertising came in the form of this Australian (?) ad in 1983. Whilst most Brut 33 commercials tend to use masculinity as a selling ploy to its male target market; this Brut 33 commercial uses the concept of 'slap stick' and silliness.

Here; a catchy jingle tells the story of how Brut 33 influenced the relationships of Adam & Eve, Samson & Delilah, Napoleon & Josephine and Robin Hood & Maid Marion.

Whilst this type of commercial was a one-off for Brut 33, the ad did enjoy an eight year run on Australian television - still being used as late as 1991.

'Where, where, would you be without Brut 33?'

  • G'day AustralianAds. I had it from a reliable source that this was an Australian ad, and screened internationally. Probably that is old news to you now. May I say how much I've enjoyed all your wonderful ad posts over the years. I just love this sort of ephemera -keep 'em coming! Also, despite their very '70s pedigree, Brut products are still widely available -but have dropped the "33" suffix. Anyone know why? Or what the number ever symbolised?

  • @bloggaloggs Thank you very much for confirming this. It is much appreciated. I still use Brut 33, so I am well-aware that it is still in the market.

Thanks for your kind comments about my uploads too. It's very much appreciated. I don't have a clue what the "33" suffix means. Hopefully somebody will come forward. All the best!

  • I thought that I had commented on this ad earlier...perhaps not. I worked for Faberge in Toronto and we reviewed this ad for Canadian audiences. We were told the ad was Australian! We loved the ad and it aired in Canada!

  • I believe you did mention it earlier and your comment is still appreciated. The ad ran in Australia for years - I remember seeing it on Aussie TV as late as 1991 and back then, I recognised it as an old commercial. The ad does have a certain 'Australian' feel to it, from jingle to acting to the slap-stick humour/cheekiness - quite reminiscent of old school Aussie comedies like Aunty Jack.

It certainly isn't the usual run-of-the-mill Brut commercials and it didn't effect sales in oz.

  • @bloggaloggs The 33 refers to the number of toxic metals and chemical sensitivity allergys this caused - BRUT by the way stands for {its a german company] "bloody reeks und toxic "...i used to put it on my knob {to smell nice} but my knob fell off. Have a nice day.

  • LMAO I haven't seen this ad for yyyyeeeeeeaaaaarrrrssss.... Thanks for posting :)

  • Great upload ... I remember this from my childhood in the early 80's ... but I am really searching for one which I loved ... it's the Made in Queensland ad, which went something like: We've made our state the greatest in the land, by harder work together hand in hand ... and so on. I have it on vinyl sung by Wickety Wak but I remember there was a clip that went with it and I was wondering 1. do you know the ad, 2. do you HAVE the ad or can you get it and 3. can you post it?

  • Listening to this again, the vocals are all a different take to each of the shorter versions - it's also down a semi-tone in pitch, for some reason - from an overseas (NTSC) screening?

  • Brut 33 is the worst product that Faberge has ever made. And still is one of the worse bloody smells. Have a whiff of this!!

  • I vividly remember this commercial from when I was quite young. It got plenty of airplay up here in Canada.

  • fuk, this is just gay, Brut aint meant to be gay Australia, lol
