How could Mexico be expected to add to its capital stock AND experience an export boom? Unless they would be exporting labor intensive goods and importing capital goods- with an ambiguous effect on the current account?
An honest assessment. In all truth once you slide down into a political economy of convince, can you seriously expect them to pull out of the cozy arrangements they set up to keep them selves comfortable (ie the people pulling the leavers in Mexico).
Brad DeLong is a smart guy I enjoy reading his work at times but he seems to have a very weak feel for human nature. I know lots of people who can not articulate their opinions as well but have a bull shit detector much better tuned to reality.
