  • Gringo means caucasian/white. You don't have to be american (from the US, for those who are a little slow) to be a gringo.

Also, why the hell are people talking about race. Just enjoy the fucking tennis video

  • @awesomerepublican Because "America" is the WHOLE CONTINENT. So an "American" would be Argentinian, Guyanese, Costa Rican, Canadian etc...

    Learn the difference.

  • @FRUEFER and of the biggest butts in men's tennis!!!

  • both guys amazing

  • @awesomerepublican gringo means american its not a stereotype

  • 2 of the best forehands both have 1 handed backhands

  • @JL6293 i wish he was pumped all the time i dont what he thinks when he loses a point but its like he gives up after

  • @datacipher I'll give you a perfect example of James Blake not having a fighting spirit. He has NOT recovered from his 2008 Olympics loss to Gonzalez.

Federer who lost to Blake in those same Olympics;partly to his Mono and his enormous amount of errors on his part and Blake who took full advantage of that. Federer went on to win the 2008 USO after getting trashed in Paris and losing his Wimbledon crown to Nadal in a cracker of a match!

Blake simply does NOT have the mental fortitude to win

  • Well I'm not sure why you necessarily equate "calm and serious" with defense capabilities. However, I don't wish to get into a discussion of Blakes' game on youtube comments, it simply is an inadequate medium. I used to coach international juniors, I have a lot of thoughts on Blake's game, but, again, we can't have meaningful discussion in these blurbs!

  • Sure there is. I dislike Blake's participation in this farce. I UNDERSTAND why he did this...money, but that doesn't mean I think his participation, is a good think, nor do I like what he stands for....fame and money vs actual tennis achievement. "hate" is your word however, and rather strong.

  • I'm not sure if Blake gets tight, but his mental strength sure isn't helping. Blake is great when he's pumped, but when he's calm and serious, he doesn't do as well. And the reason for that is Blake doesn't play good defense. Check Federer; when he's down, he can rely a little on a defensive position before regaining rhythm. Blake on the other hand, if he's off, he's off - too bad for that day. Blake can't regain rhythm during a match partially cus he can't play defense.

  • If you are against the superficiality of our society, there's no point in hating Blake for it. Notice how if people didn't offer pay for Blake, then he wouldn't do such a thing. The root of that comes from society. His participation isn't really bad, especially since I don't have anything against this superficiality.

  • Pressure. Yes. Understandable? Yes. But that's when we really show character...at the big moments when it is NOT easy to make the right decision. Even if Gonzales had acknowledged that after the fact, I would appreciate that more....I understand that he's a young man, who made a split-second selfish decision, but that doesn't make it right...and Blake had every justification for calling him on it.

  • ..he gets tight during big events...I believe he does try. But I do find him highly overrated. In all this time, he's failed to develop more depth of strategy, and the ability to play his very best when it really counts.

As to comparing it to cheating, I don't. I think Gonzales actions were reprehensible as I stated above, and I AM a Gonzales fan. I was simply stating why I'm not much of a Blake fan, not justifying Fernando's cheating.

  • No. It is not "bad" of him as an individual in that he is simply cashing in on the superficiality of our society. But it's a quality of our society I'm not too proud of, so I don't like that aspect of his commercial presence. However, I don't blame him from using it to his advantage.

As to his slam performances...a couple quarters can't be described as anything but a disappointment....his slame record is abysmal for a guy who really should have been a factor. Again, I don't even blame him..

  • Is it bad that he made money off of his good looks? Is that as bad as cheating at the Olympics? As for his ranking, it fell because he doesn't perform. When he did hold a top ten rank, no spectator can say that he didn't deserve it. That goes for any player. If they've racked the points to be where they are, they're there.

And suppose, Blake made a couple slam Quarterfinals, which is representative of highest ranking anyways (top 8).

  • Imagine the pressure Gonzalez faces up at net with a chance to get away with match point. I understand that he faced quite a bit of pressure to decide with the power to cheat at his hands. Having said that, I sympathize as far as his position, but he shouldn't have done it. On the other hand, I don't believe umpires should be given the power to decide whether or not it hit his racket. Incompetent umpires have ruined the outcome of matches before.

  • 3.Yes, he had some hardship, but many players in history had FAR worse...they didn't write bios patting themselves on the back 1/2 way through their career!

Having said that, Blake was cheated at the Olympics, and he has every right to be upset. I happen to be a Gonzalez fan...in fact, I was a fan back in the late 90's when nobody had even heard of the guy yet....but, he showed no integrity when he cheated. That was really sad, because normally, he seems a decent guy.

  • I can't say I even like Blake for serveral reasons.

    1.obnoxious "j-block" fans

2.made a ton of money off his good looks, but tennis-wise he's failed miserably at the events that really count...the slams. Not only has he not been a real contender, he hasn't even lived up to his ranking....

  • That is quite true, but the Olympics are inherantly jingoistic in the first place. Cheating at the Olympics is a great way to get a lot of fans from another country to really dislike you!

  • @datacipher

Blake always had a bad record against Gonzalez too. I remember watching this match too. I didn't know much about tennis then, so I rooted for Blake cus of his "American-ness" but now I like Blake cus he plays classic tennis (aggressive, net play, decent serves, etc.).

  • I know about gonzalez cheating but that is one man. not an entire race

  • Probably sparked because Gonzalez cheated against Blake at a crucial point in a match at the Olympics. The umpire did not see Gonzo touch the ball with his racquet, but of course Gonzo knew and didn't admit it. Blake criticized him for it....they don't like each other at all.

  • Great point !!!

  • fucking cheating spik
