A double headed set of Rotary snow plows waiting in the Roseville Union Pacific yard. There is a plow set on front and rear, two locomotives in the middle. Ready to clear snow off of the Donner Pass route

  • I guss the two b-units were to power the rotarys.

  • The units behind each snow plow provide electrical power to the old rotary units, converted from steam to electric. The B units just provide motive power.

  • @HunterR909 Why are you so upset about SP being taken over by UP. Check SP's history it has been intertwined with UP in one way or another, since the start of the 20th century. Many railroad companies have been merged out of existance, that's tough, but if they could have survived they would have, end of story. Anyway when UP "swallowed up" SP they took on SP's corportate structure, so more of SP remains than is visible on the surface, only the name and the colour scheme is gone..

  • @sniperjdp I think you mean power to the snow removal blades. The "B" units are referred to as "snails" meaning they provide no motive power. The only "motive" power is the two ES44ACs in consist.

  • Wow that is like 4 rotary's

  • @sturmtiger305mm Water dump release valves for the air compressor driers. The clicking is very short burst of air / water mix being dumped.

  • What's the clicking sound troughout the video?

  • The biggest problem I have with this video, is seeing UP engines there, I hate UP for taking over UP, Just as it has other railroads and have taken their individual look and and swallowed it up, making it the same, all UP. Sorry all, I'm just pissed off at UP, I'm a firm Espee Fan, and have been ever since I was a little kid. Sniper jdp, thank you for the close ups of the snow plows, I'm kit bashing an Athearn Snowplow, to make, as close as possible the SP version.

  • @sniperjdp Actually the B Units are for the Rotarys. They are what power the traction motors(used for the blades) which turn the blades of the Rotary.

  • Steam still necessary to move wings in front of main rotor, Boiler inside has to be re-certified each year. B-units provide electricity for main rotor, rotary must be pushed by loco's.

  • Awesome.
