@Nangbaby There are two separate dream sequences you can get from the Veltd cave. One if Shadow is alive in WoR and one if he dies.

I was pretty dumb when it came to this I accidently left shadow behind not knowing he wasnt going to be alive if you leave early now I have to restart the whole game over again because I lost one of my favorite characters

can you still pass ffvi without shadow?

Yes. Not only can you go through the rest of the game without Shadow, the default option is to do so. As seen in the video, you have to actually choose "Wait!!" once before the "Gotta wait for SHADOW..." option even comes up.

So why can't i get the the fight the portrait boss in WOR without shadow?
p.s I fought the blug dragon in the ancient castle before.

Did you go to the cave in the Veldt? If not, you won't be able to access that sidequest.
